MÂCON-VILLAGES

Terres de Craie
Most of the appellation is constituted of marl and limestone soils covered with limestone scree. The limestone present here is mainly chalk.
The subsoil is also mainly composed of limestone and marl deposited during the Jurassic marine transgressions.

HISTORY :

In this part of southern Bourgogne, the vines occupy a landscape of little hills and valleys that look as though they have been painted with a water-colorist’s brush.
The hills of the Mâconnais extend over some 40 km from the Côte Chalonnaise to the Rock of Solutré and are bordered on one side by the river Saône and the Grosne on the other. Vines were first planted here in Gallo-Roman times and were fostered in the Middle Ages by the powerful abbeys of Tournus and Cluny.

VINIFICATION :

100% Chardonnay. The must is then racked and the clear juice is allowed to ferment slowly in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the freshness and tension. Ageing for one part in stainless steel tank and for the other part in barrels.

WINE :

Colour: Golden colour with green tints.

Nose: Intense and very sustained with aromas of small white flowers and honey.

Palate: Elegant aromatic bouquet of fruits, offering finesse and distinction.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS :

Mâcon-Villages is best appreciated when young, but it may be laid down for 2 to 3 years. It is the perfect accompaniment to goat cheese, frogs, fried fish. Serve at between 11 to 12°C.
